FlexGen is a COBOL RADE (Rapid Application Development Environment) primarily used by COBOL programmers and developers to create COBOL programs.
FlexGen also has a built in runtime menu system from which to run programs developed with FlexGen, and a Query Report Writer used to build reports from COBOL Flile structures. FlexGen is used to build application systems and deploy them for end-users to use.
End-users may refer to their "payroll", "accounting" or application system as "FlexGen" since that is the end-user interface used to run those applications.
The current release of FlexGen is FlexGen 7.0.3.
You can find the latest release notice on the FlexGen Downloads page.
Contact your FlexGen supplier to obtain this release.
In general, FlexGen will run on any platform for which the COBOL runtime and compiler you use is available.
The Windows installation scripts for FlexGen 7.0 and above are compatible with Windows VISTA, Windows 7 and Windows 64 bit operating systems.
FlexGen has been tested with 32-bit COBOL runtimes on 64-bit operating systems, and is fully supported using this configuration.
Refer to your COBOL vendor’s web site for information about availability on your platform.
The SYSTEM user password is set to blanks by default until a system administrator assigns a password to it. The password for SYSTEM can only be changed or cleared by logging into FlexGen as the SYSTEM user and setting a new password. If you’ve lost your current SYSTEM password, or don’t know it, obviously this poses a problem. The SYSTEM password can be cleared back to spaces by contacting your FlexGen supplier’s support organisation.
When contacting support, you will need to send your dictionary files, FG4DICTI and FG4DICTR. The SYSTEM password will be reset to spaces for you and support will send the dictionary files back to you. Always make sure you also specify the release of FlexGen you are using when you contact your support organisation.
