Transoft Component Adapters 3.0 for Web services

The release of version 3.0 of the Transoft Component Adapters (TCA) consolidates and builds on the support already provided in TCA for Web services. Support for Web services is now generally available, whereas it was previously offered on an as required basis. With TCA 3.0 you can easily expose your legacy business logic or rules and data as reusable services, complying to Web Services, Microsoft .NET and J2EE architecture standards.

By exposing your core business systems as Web or Java services using TCA you can rapidly introduce improved IT-based business processes into your organization. Extending the access to your legacy systems through Web-based interfaces or XML-based data exchange now means you can easily enhance the way you do business with your customers and trading partners. At the same time you can extend the reach of your systems internally, providing your users with mobile computing options or more intuitive methods for accessing and operating your current applications.

For further information on what Web services are, the benefits, and how Transoft Component Adapters 3.0 can deliver them, read the whitepaper Making a good idea deliver results - building Web services from your core business applications.

Briefly the key highlights of TCA 3.0 are:

  • Support for Web services: Native* from TCA (WSDL), J2EE (Java proxy) and .NET (C#), and also SOAP for Java

  • Connector support for J2EE Java Connector Architecture (JCA), available on request

  • Connector support for non-Web services C# clients

  • Ability to retire and re-enable component instances programmatically

  • Contexts may now be shared between Service Description Files (SDL) files

  • The Transoft U/BL Language Component Adapter has been enhanced to support 4, 6 and 8-byte numerics

  • Ability to manage multiple asynchronous client connections by the COBOL and Transoft U/BL Language Component
    Adapters.

  • COM type library updates are now transferred in a compressed format to reduce network traffic

  • Licensing for multiple CPUs. When the Component Broker is started the number of CPUs will be counted. If there is more than one CPU and the licence is an existing version 2 licence, a warning will be given. Version 3 licences, for more than the default of one CPU, will specify the number of CPUs.

Transoft Component Adapters IDE 3.0 is also available to support the TCA 3.0 Deployment release.

Contact your Transoft Account Manager for further information or Transoft Customer Services, if you are on fully paid-up on support, to obtain upgrades for Transoft Component Adapters 3.0 Deployment and Transoft Component Adapters IDE 3.0.

* - "Native" Web services support means that TCA produces WSDL and is itself SOAP/XML compliant to be a Web services provider without the need for any other middleware.
