ASNA Features IT Modernization at NiSUG

West Sussex, 19 October, 2009 - ASNA presented the Business Value of IT Modernization to the Northern iSeries User Group (NiSUG). The 15 October meeting was the last meeting of the year for the Manchester, UK, user group. Teaming up with Microsoft, Transoft and ALTech Software, the presenters made a compelling case for the Return on Asset (ROA) in today's economic climate.

Recognizing the vast "estates" of application software that most AS/400, iSeries, System i installations possess, ASNA stressed the benefit of modernizing existing applications (ROA) over rip and replace strategies (ROI). Transoft, the modernization experts, covered how the merits of proven methodology, detailed planning and strong project management disciplines together with ASNA's best-of-breed products are required for successful System i migration projects. Microsoft (www.microsoft.com) stressed their affiliation with partners like ASNA and Transoft to make IT modernization a reality.

The meeting highlight was ALTech Software's (www.altechsoftware.com) demonstration of their Vision for Food System i application module VisionNPD, migrated to .NET Framework with ASNA's Monarch, Visual RPG and DataGate technologies. ALTech's application migration and its internal modernization has not only enabled them to provide VisionNPD as a stand alone application running on both the System i DB2/400 and MS SQL Server databases, but importantly enabling VisionNPD to be integrated with its other native Vision For Food .NET Modules for the SQL Server platform.

Finally, Transoft and ASNA made an offer to the NiSUG to migrate free of charge one of their member's RPG/CL System i applications to the Windows .NET platform and demonstrate the modernized application at a subsequent user group meeting.
