Martin Whysall, Fleet Administration Manager, South Yorkshire Police
South Yorkshire Police is made up of 3,000 uniformed staff, plus more than 1,500 civilian staff. As part of its day-to-day working, the force has some 650 vehicles including cars, vans, motorcycles and some specialist vehicles. The South Yorkshire force manages and services most of the fleet in its own four workshops. The force itself records all the information surrounding its fleet, such as the purchase and disposal of vehicles, costs involved, mileage, fuel consumption, general maintenance, service dates, and replacement dates; the list is virtually endless.
With so many vehicles to run, manage and service, South Yorkshire Police requires an efficient fleet management system to enable it to cope proficiently with the volume of information produced. For the past eight years the force had been using a system from Tranman Solutions Limited to manage and monitor all the information and administration surrounding its fleet. The system worked admirably, but it became clear that an upgrade to the latest version was required. Tranman Solutions wanted to modernise its products to give them an improved look and feel, so sought out Transoft.
