Transoft Releases Case Study on Third Party Logistics Company Burris Logistics

Transoft, a leader in application modernization and data integration, released a case study of its customer, Burris Logistics.  The paper highlights how the third party logistics company, specializing in refrigerated food distribution, was able to successfully integrate their existing warehouse management system with a voice controlled picking system for warehouse operations.

Burris Logistics, founded in 1925 and located in Milford, Delaware, has built an outstanding reputation providing custom distribution solutions to its customers. Named seventh largest by International Refrigerated Transportation Association (IRTA), Burris operates 15 warehouse centers along the east coast of the United States.

Operations in a cold freezer environment presented a number of challenges, one of which included the need for employees to wear protective gloves in the cold climate. Because of this, traditional keyboard based applications were prone to error and difficult to use. The cold temperatures also proved challenging as pens didn’t work and many labels didn’t stick as effectively.

As a result, Burris Logistics decided to move their distribution centers to a voice recognition application for warehouse operations. This technology allowed Burris to improve efficiencies and keep up with the rapid growth and expansion of the business. However, Burris still needed to integrate this new technology with existing warehouse management applications.

Burris selected Transoft Component Adapters (TCA) to bridge the gap between the two technologies. “We’ve been able to see tremendous value in our distribution centers’ picking process. Our warehouse productivity has increased 10%-15%, and that would not have been possible without Transoft Component Adapters.” says Krupka.
