Extends Proven Functionality of U/SQL with the Release
of Rev.3.10.406 and its New JDBC Driver
U/SQL users can now leverage
indispensable legacy data when implementing e-business
applications by adopting the benefits of the Java platform.
April 16, 2001 - Transoft, a leading international
provider of application integration products and services,
is pleased to announce the availability of U/SQL rev 3.10.0406.
Transoft U/SQL Adapters are part of the Transoft family
of Intelligent Adapters that allow you to connect e-business
applications with your legacy assets.
A key feature of this release is a JDBC interface that
extends the proven functionality of Transoft U/SQL. It
allows Java clients to communicate with non-relational
data sources, providing platform independent access to
a variety of legacy platforms.
As an object-oriented language, Java facilitates the
development of robust, portable and easy to maintain applications.
The JDBC API is the industry standard for database-independent
connectivity between the Java programming language and
a wide range of databases. JDBC technology allows developers
using the Java programming language to exploit the "Write
One, Run Anywhere" (WORA) capabilities for applications
that require access to enterprise data.
The new JDBC interface offers U/SQL users a range of
benefits. In particular, it is now possible to leverage
existing enterprise data when implementing new Web applications
by adopting the benefits of the Java platform. Users can
access legacy information via Java programs, instead of
incurring the cost of rewriting or re-formatting existing
data. The JDBC API also makes application development
easier, since much of the difficult database programming
tasks are dealt with automatically.
The value of legacy data is further extended because
both Java and Windows applications (via ODBC) can access
it simultaneously through a single U/SQL server.
Transoft continues to provide improved performance through
the following enhancements in this release:
- Improved query engine gives faster response.
- New DBA guide allows optimum query planner use. This
documentation gives database administrators guidance
to enable them to make optimum use of the query planner.
- Query planner "hinting" gives user control
of indexing and table ordering. Hinting enforces the
use of a specific index. It can also enforce the joining
of tables in a specified order.
- Improved validation of U/SQL server configuration
gives immediate response to invalid set-up directives.
Geoff Baker, Development Director for Transoft, commented,
"The JDBC interface available in the latest release
of U/SQL extends the product into a new arena. Java is
such a widely used language that this driver will prove
invaluable to many companies with indispensable legacy
databases who need to build e-business applications. The
announcement of the availability of U/SQL 3.10.0406 further
underlines Transoft's commitment to providing solutions
for enterprises to move to the Web with minimum risk and
in the shortest time."
