Transoft Announces Transoft Component Builder

First Productivity Tool for Rapid Development of Open-Architecture COBOL Components

March 19, 2001 - Transoft, a leading international provider of application integration products and services, today announced the introduction of Transoft Component Builder, a productivity tool designed to provide a fast, easy and low-risk approach to new COBOL-based development and re-engineering projects.

Complementing the Transoft Intelligent Adapters family of products, Transoft Component Builder is the first product to provide auto-generation of open-architecture COBOL components and services. These COBOL components can then be seamlessly integrated into Java, Visual Basic, XML and CORBA-based development projects using Transoft Language Component Adapters.

Supporting ACUCOBOL, Micro Focus COBOL and RM COBOL compilers, Transoft Component Builder will automatically generate complete components for a number of commonly used services such as "Get," "Update," and "Delete." No coding is required, and the services can be generated in a matter of minutes. Transoft Component Builder also allows the user to customize and expand these generic services by adding standard COBOL code, enabling them to provide any required functionality.

As a result, COBOL programmers can now collaborate and participate in new application developments in a highly productive way, while bringing to bear their years of business experience within the organization.

Transoft Component Builder is a repository-based development tool that uses the proven technology of the Transoft FlexGen Rapid Application Development (RAD) product. The repository design allows change control and execution to be both simple and complete. A change to any repository-based item (file definitions, field properties, record relationship, functions) will cause an automatic recompilation of all affected components. In addition, a file-conversion program is automatically provided, should the above-mentioned change require the modification of a physical file. This greatly enhances development and maintenance productivity.

Transoft Component Builder also provides complete testing and debugging of the services without requiring the completion of the client-side application. Localized server testing without the need for client programs provides greater development flexibility and efficiency.
