2001- UNIX Operating Systems-Supported Revisions Update
Dear Transoft Customer,
Transoft's operating system support policy is
to build, where possible, its products on operating systems
that are supported by the relevant manufacturers.
Various UNIX manufacturers have advised us of their plans
to reduce support for, and remove certain versions of,
their operating systems. This letter is to advise you
how Transoft plans to manage these changes, giving you
the opportunity to upgrade any affected platforms in a
timely fashion. Discontinued Operating Systems.
SCO UNIX 3.2, and IBM AIX 4.2.1 were discontinued by
their suppliers on 30 September 1999 and 31 March 2000
respectively. Due to customer demand, we have endeavoured
to support these operating systems for as long as possible,
however, ageing machines and the lack of operating system
manufacturer support means that Transoft is formally announcing
the withdrawal of these platform revisions.
In an effort to ease the transition to newer revisions
of these two operating systems, we are giving three months
notice to allow you to plan an orderly upgrade. Support
for these operating systems will be withdrawn on 31 August
2001.
The latest revision of U/SQL Client-Server (3.10.0406),
U/BL (2.30), and Transoft Component Framework Deployment
(1.27) are available on SCO UNIX 3.2 and IBM AIX 4.2,
but these will be the final releases for these platforms.
U/FOS (2.4.2038) is available on IBM AIX 4.2 but this
will be the final release for this version of the operating
system.
Please note that if you are on an annual support agreement,
then you will be able to upgrade your Transoft license
to a supported operating system of the same platform hardware
free of charge. If you are unsure of your options, then
please contact your account manager.
If you are unable to upgrade within the allotted timeframe,
Transoft will provide the following support service:
Transoft Support Policy for Discontinued Revisions of
Operating Systems
For a site with a non-supported version of an operating
system covered by a currently paid-up support contract,
then:
1. Such a site may upgrade at any time to the current
version of the same hardware platform, and any relevant
licenses/banners will be reissued at no charge.
2. Support queries can be logged with Transoft Customer
Services.
3. Any reported problem will be verified against the
latest shipping product.
If the problem is fixed, you will be advised to upgrade
to the current revision of the product and relevant operating
system release.
If the problem still exists, you will either be given
a work-around, or a fix will be made in the current or
subsequent version of the product depending on the nature
of the problem. If the problem requires a fix, you will
need to upgrade to a relevant operating system release.
