Transoft
Builds Wireless Solution for Do it Best Corp.
Company adopts an application re-use strategy
to develop a new handheld program with seamless integration.
June 5, 2002 - Transoft, Inc., a leading application understanding,
transformation, assembly and integration company, announced
today a wireless solution contract with Do it Best Corp.,
a $2.2 billion hardware, lumber and building materials
buying cooperative. Working with the Do it Best Corp.
IT team, Transoft developed the core application for the
new members' in-store CS2000 Mobile Manager™ system.
This program resides on a handheld device with barcode
scanner that can communicate with the in-store central
server, both when attached to its network and remotely
via wireless. This allows users to process orders, deliveries,
item maintenance, physical count and price changes anywhere
inside any Do it Best® member-retailer store.
Transoft built this application by adopting the company's
proven methodology of re-using existing application business
logic in a Web services architecture. The new wireless
system has seamless, on-line integration with the central
store-based CS2000 system and provides more functionality,
flexibility and significant time savings to Do it Best®
member-retailers across the nation.
The product is currently in beta test and Do it Best
Corp. intends to roll out the new units to retailers starting
in July.
"Our ability to expose existing business logic and
data within current applications for development and integration
of new systems has enabled Transoft to provide a valuable
extension to Do it Best Corp. store systems," said
Paul Holland, CEO of Transoft. "Additionally, we
were able to accomplish this task in a short timeframe."
Jeff Wilson, Do it Best Corp. retail DP manager, said
that the new CS2000 Mobile Manager software will also
allow member-retailers to create purchase orders while
away at the co-op's buying markets, then upload the orders
when they return to their stores, either by wireless or
when attached to the in-store network.
"With Transoft's valuable assistance, we plan on
continually enhancing the unit to offer more functionality
as technology evolves," Wilson said.
