Cincinnati-based Positive Business Solutions, Inc. (PBSI) manufactures leading-edge medical office software, which is widely used in the healthcare industry. PBSI has formed a partnership with Gateway Community and Technical College, which offers a medical information technology program, to create the PBSI Learning Center on the college campus in Edgewood, KY. Under the terms of a three-year contract, PBSI will supply Gateway with computer software and support that will be used to teach students how to use the software to get them jobs on the business side of medical offices, which is a growing field. The donation from PBSI of the software, hardware, and support is estimated at more than $100,000 over three years. Transoft provided the underlying U/BL licenses to PBSI free of charge, so this donation could become a reality.

UK tire company, Stapletons, enhances their e-business site with Transoft Component Adapters
Stapletons has enhanced the e-business front-end to its legacy applications by deploying the Transoft Screen Adapter. This has enabled them to use the same business logic from the in-house PRO-IV Tyreman application to satisfy Web availability and pricing requests as well as to order products. |
|
Stephen Parker (Stapletons I.T. Director) commented - "Using the Transoft Screen Component Adapter has enabled us to speed-up our ProfitLink online ordering website, with the search capability now taking less than 3 seconds from an initial 8-10 seconds. Using the same business logic also means that our development life cycles are considerably reduced and the internal and external sales resources utilise a single set of rules."

Transoft launches Legacy Liberator to help companies migrate from ICL VME platforms with minimal pain and cost
Transoft, a leader in helping companies to evolve to new IT solutions from their legacy applications, has launched a version of its Transoft Legacy Liberator application migration toolset for the ICL VME mainframe. Transoft Legacy Liberator for ICL will enable organizations to migrate all flavours of their ICL VME applications (Application Master, COBOL, SCL and IDMSX) to UNIX, Linux or Windows.
For more information: www.transoft.com/news/ICL_VME_LegacyLiberator.htm Transoft extends your investment in our software by adding support for 64-bit platforms in U/SQL and TCA
Transoft has added support for the 64-bit platforms in U/SQL and TCA in order to satisfy user demand.
However, when you buy a 64-bit computer it may be to your advantage to run 32-bit software on it rather than getting the software compiled in 64-bit mode. Recompiling in 64-bit mode makes the binary capable of accessing large amounts of memory, but also makes the binary bigger and potentially slower. Unless the application can make use of more than 2Gb of memory, there is a disadvantage in using 64-bit binaries.
The manufacturers are supporting, and even encouraging 32-bit binaries on 64-bit hardware. For example, Oracle releases include 32-bit libraries on all 64-bit platforms.

Transoft U/Qube replaces Quest’s QMaster Queue and Print Manager with considerable savings
Transoft has developed U/Qube as a Queue and Print Manager for customers requiring the ability to control enterprise-wide distributed multi-server operations flexibly and cost-effectively.
Several years ago, Transoft migrated a large packaging manufacturer’s legacy applications in some 40 countries from proprietary Data General (DG) MV computers to Microsoft Windows NT and Micro Focus COBOL, with Transoft’s U/FOS database a clone of the DG database INFOS.
With such a complex operation, it is essential that this organization has considerable flexibility in the control of batch and print queues across the many servers. As part of the original migration, Quest’s QMaster was installed as the queue and print manager, but with the constant need to change configuration of servers QMaster was inflexible in meeting the customer’s needs.
Transoft continues to provide long-term software infrastructure support, and with the roll out of multiple Windows Server 2003 platforms, the manufacturer chose to implement Transoft’s U/Qube replacing QMaster as the queue and print manager as it offered increased flexibility and considerable cost savings.

Transoft at COBOL Future 2005, Utrecht, Netherlands, April 28
This was the second annual conference on the future of one of the oldest programming languages. Given the perennial and, in our opinion, utterly misguided predictions of COBOL’s demise it was heartening to be part of such a well attended event.
The major theme of the conference was "decreasing the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of legacy-systems". One of the ways to achieve this is migrating core business applications on to modern, lower cost, platforms such Windows, UNIX and Linux.
Another major consideration is leveraging current assets by integrating COBOL functionality with Java, .NET and application servers such as WebLogic, WebShere or BizTalk.
Transoft has products and services to achieve all of this and more, with an enviable track record of success. So consequently it was a hectic day conversing with both long standing, and potential new partners, and our application migration and modernization presentation attracted more than 70 attendees.
