Transoft provides migration path for HP e3000 TRANSACT 4GL applications
Transoft recently announced that it has expanded its Transoft Legacy Liberator migration toolset and service offering to include the capability to migrate HP e3000 TRANSACT-based applications to open systems.

Until now, following Hewlett-Packard's announcement that it was discontinuing the HP e3000 platform, HP e3000 users with TRANSACT applications have had to either discard these systems when they move to a new open systems platform, or have them re-developed from the ground up in a different language.

With this development, Transoft is able to migrate these TRANSACT applications to any open systems platform without any loss of functionality. This is achieved by the new 'TRANSACT to COBOL' capability of Transoft Legacy Liberator that generates COBOL code, acceptable to open systems COBOL, from these applications. These generated COBOL programs utilize Transoft's established libraries supporting MPE functionality, including VPLUS and IMAGE, enabling appropriate replications of TRANSACT runtime functionality. Once migrated, the applications can be easily modernized with GUI interfaces and Web connectivity using Transoft Adapters.

Transoft "liberates" Rockland County's Bull technology to an open systems environment
Transoft has won a $1million contract with Rockland County, NY, to migrate the Bull GCOS applications and data of its health department, mental healthcare and long-term care operations to the latest IT standards. The Transoft Legacy Liberator migration suite will convert the county's programs and information to an IBM e-Server running the AIX operating system.

Transoft moves the technology at Lakeshore Learning Materials from the '80s to the 21st Century
Transoft has been chosen by Lakeshore Learning Materials to migrate and update the data and applications of the company's order processing system to an open systems architecture. Based in the Los Angeles area, Lakeshore Learning produces and sells school supplies and educational toys. After more than 20 years of using an order processing system on a Data General (DG) MV system, and given the dwindling support available for it, Lakeshore Learning appointed Transoft to update the system to Transoft U/BL on a Hewlett-Packard server under the open systems HP/UX environment.

Another major project consolidates Transoft's worldwide HP e3000 migration leadership…

HP e3000 migration delivered for leading European transport company
In conjunction with its partner CAP Gemini Ernst & Young, Transoft has delivered, ready for acceptance testing, a UK HP e3000 migration solution for one of Europe's leading transport companies. The VPLUS, COBOL, IMAGE application was transformed to ACUCOBOL running SQL Server under Windows 2003, with a mix of character and ASP .NET GUI screens. The user will benefit from faster processing, easier reporting, easier expansion of functionality and security of supply.

One particularly challenging aspect of the project was the simulation of the original MPE operating system IPC (Inter Process Communication) mechanism. This was key to retaining the facility to automatically transfer staff details between depots to match actual staff transfers.

Skyguide (Swiss Air Traffic Control) now testing migrated applications
Transoft has completed and delivered the migration work for Skyguide. Written in a complex mix of ADA, Fortran 77, C and Assembler, we have taken their mission-critical applications from a DG MV to a modern Windows environment. Intensive testing will now take place before going live.

Transoft Adapters give Stapletons real-time online ordering
"Being committed to customer focused solutions, we recognised that real-time online ordering was a strategic alternative to our call centre. Transoft Adapters have allowed us to integrate our online ordering system with our existing applications. This has been instrumental in helping to secure new contract wins with Ford, BMW and many others, and as a result our business has grown by 10%."

Today online ordering accounts for nearly 20% of Stapleton's trade business - taking nearly £2 million worth of orders each month.

Symology adds wireless application with Transoft Adapters
Symology Limited, the developer of integrated solutions for the management of infrastructure assets, including highways, land and property, structures, public lighting, and distribution networks, has used Transoft Adapters to develop a new wireless Mobile Device Module for its Insight application to facilitate field data collection.

Field data collection is becoming increasingly important. With the government emphasis on performance, an efficient and flexible mobile device solution is required. The new Mobile Device module not only meets these needs, but also provides additional business functionality. By using the Microsoft .NET framework and connecting to the existing ACUCOBOL application via Transoft Adapters, Symology can potentially port this module to any other .NET compatible device and has protected its software investment.

Transoft completes project to provide SEDOL code enhancements to Northern Bank of Belfast
In January 2003 all institutions using the London Stock Exchange service were notified that, from 5th January 2004, all securities would need to be identified by a 7 character alphanumeric SEDOL code.

Northern Bank Plc was running TABS (a Trust and Investments Management system written using Transoft U/BL and BB-ISAM data files) and in TABS securities were identified by a 7 digit numeric SEDOL code. Transoft made the appropriate major changes to many of the TABS programs for Northern Bank, and undertook the necessary data file conversion. The modifications were delivered early, and implementation was problem-free.

Further enhancements were delivered in time for March month-end reporting, and these have reduced the time taken to produce specific management reports from a day to less than an hour.

SP Richards reports industrial strength performance with Transoft Adapters
Jim Moseley, VP SP Richards, reports the excellent performance they are achieving with Transoft Adapters on their Web server. This is processing in excess of 130,000 hits per day and their main HP/UX server is processing over 2 million transactions per day with less than half of their distribution centers online.

SP Richards expects the Transoft Adapters to process in excess of 4 million transactions per day once all of their 39 distribution centers are online.
