Transoft launches Legacy Liberator to help companies migrate from ICL VME platforms with minimal pain and cost

8 February 2005, Transoft Ltd, a leader in helping companies to evolve to new IT solutions from their legacy applications, has launched a version of its Transoft Legacy Liberator application migration toolset for the ICL VME mainframe. Transoft Legacy Liberator for ICL will enable organisations to migrate all flavours of their ICL VME applications (Application Master, COBOL, SCL and IDMS/X) to UNIX, Linux or Windows.

"Many ICL VME IT departments want to move off their legacy platforms,” says Geoff Baker, managing director of Transoft. “Often organisations are looking to reduce costs by supporting only a single operating system. In the case of the ICL community this issue is even more pressing because many older systems are facing the loss of support and the upgrade charges will be high.”

“Transoft Legacy Liberator makes it much faster for companies to move these applications from VME to open systems without risk, and at a fraction of the cost of redeveloping or buying a package,” Baker continued. “Running applications on an open platform is typically one third of the cost of keeping them running on a legacy platform.”

Transoft has performed hundreds of application migrations with Transoft Legacy Liberator from a range of proprietary platforms including IBM, Bull, NCR mainframes, HP e3000, VAX and Alpha OpenVMS, and Data General MV. Customers include Arriva London bus company, Department For International Development, Motorola, Ford, British Telecom, Littlewoods, HP Bulmer and The Kennel Club. ICL VME is the latest legacy platform to be supported by the product set.

In order to quickly and accurately establish the scope, timescales and cost associated with the migration of VME applications Transoft also offers a short fixed price Discovery Pathfinder service.

After the migration, Transoft has a range of solutions to modernise the VME applications now running on an open platform and solve subsequent integration and modernisation problems. Based on the Transoft Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) technology suite, these solutions enable migrated applications to deliver business and mission critical services to external communities such as mobile, Web, .NET and J2EE.

Transoft Legacy Liberator for ICL VME is available now. Telephone Transoft on 01753 778000 for more information or visit www.transoft.com/VME.
