Leading energy company to migrate from OpenVMS with Transoft - 27 Jan 2009

One of the world's largest integrated energy companies has chosen Transoft, the modernization experts, to migrate its research application from OpenVMS to a Windows operating system. The application, written in FORTRAN and RS/1 using an Ingres database, will be converted to C# .NET and modernized to include an SQL Server database and GUI front-end.

This large supplier of oil and natural gas is dedicated to finding new fuel additives and developments to continuously meet the demands of its market. It is working towards global collaboration of all research centers, and this is not easily attained with the current non-standard OpenVMS environment. The existing system is critical to the organization, and while it is still functionally meeting the business needs, the technology used is restricting business growth and increasing business risk.

The migration using Transoft's unique OpenVMS toolset and services will:

  • rapidly move the application from OpenVMS to Windows seamlessly and without risk
  • allow for easier sharing of information across the organization globally
  • combat the business risk associated with decreasing knowledge of the programming environment
  • provide an environment that is easily maintained by new staff and simpler to learn for the researcher user community.
