New Japan Securities
Investing in the future
"Moving towards an open
systems environment, without abandoning existing
applications,
allowed us to minimize
the changes to the application and maintain the consistency
on which users had come to depend."
New Japan Securities is the fifth largest securities
broker in Japan, it has subsidiaries throughout Asia
and in London, Zurich and New York. To remain competitive
and to best serve customers' needs, New Japan Securities
must be innovative, minimize its operating expenses,
and make the best use of its resources - including IT
resources.
Its NCR 9800 mainframe running a VRX operating system
had many applications with features and functions essential
to conducting business, however many staff felt the legacy
environment was limiting the company's potential. After
evaluating alternatives New Japan Securities decided
to migrate to a DEC-Alpha and chose Transoft - one of
the few migration solution companies that knows the VRX
system. Transoft designed a methodology and provided
the tools to enable New Japan Securities to protect its
legacy investment and take full advantage of modern technology
while not leaving COBOL.
