Moving towards an open systems environment without
abandoning existing applications
"It's a very serious problem
when a vendor tells you that they are no longer going
to support the operating system that you are on. The college
was happy with the applications that we had. Therefore,
we were resolved to finding an affordable alternative
that would still allow users to utilize the existing applications."
 Mid-State
Technical College, a two-year technical college in Wisconsin,
offers students associate degrees and technical diplomas
in a wide variety of disciplines. Over 2,500 students
pursue degrees each year and nearly 15,000 students are
continuing their education at Mid-State.
Moving towards an open systems environment, without abandoning
existing applications, became the key IT objective for
Mid-State when they were informed that their information
systems provider planned to terminate support. With the
