in 1968, Medeco is an established brand leader in locks
and locking systems for security, safety and control.
Yet, this prestigious company, recognized for its innovation
and forward thinking, recently had a pressing technology
need that seemed short on solutions.
Throughout the years, Medeco serviced its IT needs with
a Data General MV20000 mainframe system. In late 2000,
Medeco decided it had to address the significant risks
imposed on its business by outdated legacy applications
and the Data General platform. But the option of replacing
all the applications on the Data General platform was
unappealing, based on high cost and the long time to
select, modify and implement replacement applications.
Instead,
Medeco's managers settled on a better alternative: migrate
legacy applications and data onto the HP 9000 environment.
