When EDS decided to convert their 15-year old VMS mission critical Work Force Management application to UNIX, Transoft provided the perfect answer. Used by the telephone companies, EDS was under pressure from its customers to make the application available on UNIX.

With over 3M Lines Of Code; massive conversion barriers existed including extensive VAX FORTRAN and C compiler extensions, extensive usage of FMS, System Services, DCL, Batch, over 1 million FMS screens, mixed coding practices and missing documentation. It had been estimated that it would take over 40 man-years to re-engineer the application for the targeted UNIX environment.
Due to the size and complexity of the job, Transoft was engaged to perform a turnkey port. EDS had concluded that Transoft ’s expertise and the Transoft Open MIGR8 suite of products was a perfect fit. Transoft’s language porting tools and library handled nearly 100% of the conversion including RMS dependencies. Over 95% of command procedure dependencies were solved with Open DCL and OJBC addressed 80% of the batch requirements. Transoft Open FMS/UNIX handled 100% of the important screen and form dependencies.
