Transoft
help the Thailand Power Utility port their VMS systems to Solaris
IX |
The
Thailand Power Utility is one of the major power utility companies in Thailand.
As part of Sun’s offer to replace VMS systems at the power utility in Thailand, they had to address the legacy application and find a solution to help port the environment to Solaris. Sun’s Bangkok office turned to Transoft for help.
After consulting with Sun’s local Systems Integrator, Bangkok Data Center, on the specifics of the legacy functionality and major issues, Transoft recommended the needed products to accomplish the migration job. The legacy environment included VAX COBOL, VAX FMS, VMS System Services, and DCL. Of particular concern was the use of the Thai character set support in displaying using FMS. Digital’s VAX FMS had required special patches to enable it to fully support their application under VMS and the client wanted a guarantee that the product Transoft was selling, Transoft Open FMS/UNIX, would do the job. Open FMS/UNIX supports the Thai character set!
The tools provided by Transoft included Transoft Open COBOL for porting the VAX COBOL to Micro Focus, Transoft Open LIBR8 to handle the VMS system dependencies, Transoft Open FMS/UNIX and Transoft Open DCL. Bangkok Data Center used these tools to successfully port the VMS legacy application to Solaris.
